Majors, whose roller-coaster round of 69 included five birdies and an eagle, holed a 15-foot par putt on the second playoff hole, then watched as Preston Wilkins of Tulsa, Okla., who matched Majors' birdie on the first playoff hole, slid his 4-footer for par right. With the victory, Majors earned an exemption into the National Championship at PGA National in May.

PLAYER TO WATCH
Name: Nguyen Thai Duong
Age: 18
Golfweek/Titleist Ranking: N/A
Residence: Vietnam
The Skinny: Vietnam has never produced a professional golfer, but 18-year-old Nguyen Thai Duong is looking to change that. One of four Vietnamese amateurs slated to play in the Asian Tour's $200,000 Carlsberg Masters Nov. 4-7 at Chi Linh Star Golf and Country Club, Duong is currently training in Johor, Malaysia, with renowned Australian swing coach Kel Llewellyn.

''I won't be surprised if Duong becomes one of the first professional golfers to emerge from Vietnam,'' said Llewellyn, who has worked with Duong since June, focusing not only on swing but also the benefits of diet, mental training, yoga and meditation. ''He listens to instructions and he practices 10 hours a day when he's with me -- the boy is on a mission.''

Like most Vietnamese boys his age, Duong's first love was soccer. He only started playing golf after he began to follow his father to the driving range. Four years later, Duong has brought his handicap down to 5 and captured his first amateur title, an under-18 tournament in Malaysia.

''The best route for Duong now is to remain in the amateur ranks for the next two to three years and during this time, he should be learning how to score,'' Llewellyn said.

Duong said he plans on attending college in the United States to help develop his game before returning to Asia in a few years where he hopes to make Vietnamese golf history.
