* Some of Canada's top juniors head overseas this week to compete in the inaugural Canada/Ireland Junior Challenge Matches Oct. 10-11 at Portmarnock Golf Club near Dublin. Eight Canadian juniors will challenge the Irish junior team in a Ryder Cup-style competition.

Representing Canada will be: Marc Bourgeois, 17, Dieppe, New Brunswick, Kevin Dore, 17, Dundas, Ontario, Rafael Lee, 14, Burnaby, British Columbia, Matthew Leon, 15, Brampton, Ontario, Craig Revell, 17, Kingston, Ontario, Dave Stewart, 17, Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Dane Thorogood, 16, Calgary, Alberta and Dale Vallely, 16, Lethbridge, Alberta. For three team members the trip is long overdue. Leon, Revell and Thorogood were among those selected to represent Canada last year, when the international competition was cancelled due to security concerns following the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

"Competition experience, particularly international experience like this, is a key component in developing elite golfers. I know these guys are all excited by the opportunity to represent Canada and I'm confident they will perform well and learn a great deal along the way," said Royal Canadian Golf Association national coach Henry Brunton.
