TOURNAMENT RECAPS
Event: AJGA Polo Golf Junior Classic
Course: Sea Island GC (Seaside and Plantation Courses).
When: Nov. 22-26.
Where: Sea Island, Ga.
Winners: James Lee, La Habra, Calif./Morgan Pressel, Boca Raton, Fla.
Runners-up: David May/Marika Lendl, Goshen, Conn.
Skinny: James Lee's birthday bash extended 23 holes Nov. 25 when he parred the fifth playoff hole to best David May at the Polo Golf Junior Classic. Lee, who was looking to avenge a Round-of-16 loss to May at last year's Polo, carried a 2-up advantage through nine holes. May mounted a back-nine charge, however, and both players were forced to drain 15-foot putts on the 18th hole to extend the match. Lee's route to the final match included victories over Arnond Vongvanij, Matthew Swan, Rafael Lee and Cornelius Carroll. In the girls' division, Morgan Pressel returned to the course early Friday morning to edge U.S. Girls' Junior champion Julieta Granada on the 21st hole. She then began her finals match against Marika Lendl with a bogey on the opening hole and trailed for the first nine holes. A par on the 10th hole pulled the match to all square and Pressel went on to win three of the next six holes to clinch a 3-and-2 victory.

Event: FCWT Amelia Island Junior Golf Classic

Skinny: Courtney Harter rebounded from a shaky second round with a 2-under 70 Nov. 28 to edge Alexandrea Schulte. After opening rounds of 76-83, Harter's putter heated up on the final day earning her an exemption into the FCWT National Championship in May. Gregor Slabe, 15, decided to move up a division after winning the 13-15 age bracket at last year's Amelia Island event. New division, same results. Slabe held on to win the 16-18 division by one stroke despite carding a final-round 77.

Drew Kittleson won the boys division with ease, finishing at 8-under 211. Kittleson posted four birdies in the final round to shoot 70 and finish six strokes ahead of Robert Budenbender.

Both Hadley and Yates had 38 pars over the course of three rounds, but Hadley's hot putter prevailed over the weekend when he shot 68-70. The victory gives Hadley an exemption into the FCWT National Championship and an invitation to the TPC at Sawgrass event in January. Wiese bogeyed the first playoff hole to drop out of the title race while Barbee and Myers matched scores for three holes. On the par-5 10th, Myers made double bogey to give Barbee the crown. Event: IJGT at Shingle Creek

Runners-up: Justin Kim (73-70--143), ChampionsGate, Fla.; Jordan Elsen (69-74--143), Kenosha, Wis./Natalie Sheary (77-72--149), West Hartford, Conn.; Tatiana Morato (73-76--149), Spain.
Course: Shingle Creek GC.
Where: Orlando, Fla.
Skinny: This can't be right, thought Lion Kim after making his third consecutive bogey on No. 16 during the final round of the IJGT at Shingle Creek event. ''I never do that,'' said Kim, who takes pride in his on-course focus. ''I was a little ticked off.'' It was good then, that before his trio of bogeys, he'd stepped to the 14th tee at 5 under, somewhat absurd considering the day's windy conditions. ''You can easily slack off on these windy days,'' said Kim, who parred in to win by three strokes over Justin Kim (73-70--143) and Jordan Elsen (69-74--143). On the girls side, Seira Nakashima (See: Player to Watch) posted a final-round 75 to win by two strokes over Natalie Sheary (77-72--149) and Tatiana Morato (73-76--149).

NEWS AND NOTES
* Ashleigh Simon's standout junior career reached new heights Nov. 27 when the 15-year-old played alongside Gary Player at the Nelson Mandela Invitational. Simon, who became the first amateur to win the Women's South African Open earlier this year after a final-round 63, replaced Samuel L. Jackson as a ''celebrity'' in the field. The 2004 South African Women's Match Play and Stroke Play champion represented her country at the World Amateur Team Championship in October and will team with Laurette Maritz in the Women's World Cup at the Player-designed Links at Fancourt in February.
* Matt Savage of Louisville, Ky., was named the AJGA's Jerry Cole Sportsman of the Year Nov. 22. The award is given annually to an AJGA member who has displayed exemplary sportsmanship both on and off the golf course. ''It really means a lot to me to be recognized for this award,'' said Savage, the first Kentucky native to win the award since PGA Tour player Steve Flesch. Short shots: Laura Diaz, the FCWT girls chair, surprised the field at the FCWT Amelia Island (Fla.) Junior Golf Classic by making an appearance on the 10th tee at her home course Nov. 28. . . . For the third consecutive year, Jon Curran of Hopkinton, Mass., was named the Christopher Cutler Rich Massachusetts Golf Association Junior Player of the Year. Curran, a 2004 Rolex First Team All-America, won this year's Scott Robertson Memorial, AJGA Hartford Jaycees, Challenge Cup World Series of Golf and Challenge Cup Invitational. He also advanced to the semifinals of the U.S. Junior. . . . Mike VanSickle of Wexford, Pa., won the Naples Beach Junior Golf Challenge Nov. 21 with rounds of 70-70. Rhea Nair of Dubai, United Arab Emirates, took the girls division title with a 143 total.

PLAYER TO WATCH
Name: Seira Nakashima
Age: 18
Golfweek/Titleist Ranking: N/A
Residence: Northbrook, Ill.
The Skinny: On most nights of late, Seira Nakashima goes to bed in South Carolina, thinking about Japan and what would have been in Pennsylvania. It's a crazy time for the 18-year-old from Northbrook, Ill., a suburb of Chicago, who recently enrolled at the International Junior Golf Academy in Hilton Head Island, S.C., not long after making one of the toughest decisions of her life. A dorm room on the campus of Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa., would have been Nakashima's sleeping quarters now, had she not told her parents in mid-August that the Quaker State wasn't for her. ''I decided not to go like two weeks before school started,'' said Nakashima, sitting Nov. 14 in the clubhouse at Shingle Creek Golf Club in Orlando, Fla., where minutes earlier, she received a trophy for winning her first IJGT event. ''[Bucknell] is in Pennsylvania and it's similar to Chicago,'' she said. ''It's cold there, and I just wanted to improve my golf game.'' Just a month after morphing from Bucknell undergraduate to AJGA apprentice, Nakashima's decision looks like the right one. Her victory at windy Shingle Creek was an impressive study in consistency and patience, which you can tell by talking to her are attributes she's come to rely on. Before the final round, for example, Nakashima said her goal was to shoot 75, which she thought because of the breezy conditions would be good enough to win. She shot 75, even though she could of posted 77 and still won by a shot. ''I should have played better because I'm used to [the wind],'' said Nakashima, who before joining the AJGA had virtually no experience on any national junior circuits. ''But I'm happy.'' It was certainly validation of the decision to skip her freshman year. But now, Nakashima has no regrets. She's thinking clearer and swinging better. Just a week after her victory at Shingle Creek, she won again at Pinehurst No. 8, by 20 shots. Of course, she hopes some big schools, preferably in warm climates, will call now. But she's also been thinking about attending a university in Japan, where her parents were born, a place she's visited many times and grown accustomed to. ''I think it'd be a good experience,'' she said.
