TOURNAMENT RECAPS

* IJGT -- University of New Mexico

Zach Fullerton of Albuquerque, N.M., birdied the par-5 18th March 23 to finish off a 3-under 69 and win the IJGT's University of New Mexico Tournament. Fullteron's 1-under 143 total on the Champions Course was enough to edge Michael Quagliano of White Plains, N.Y., by one stroke.

Quagliano (73) finished alone in second for the fifth time this season. Jesse Barnsley, Travis Reid and Dustin Pimm finished in a three-way tie for third at 149.

Ryann O'Toole of San Clemente, Calif., shot a closing 71 to win the girls 15-19 division. O'Toole finished at 6-over 150, three strokes ahead of Elli Brown (74) from Meridian, Idaho.

* AJGA -- Ashworth Preseason Junior at Diablo Grande

Jordan Cox of Redwood City, Calif., captured the Ashworth Preseason Junior at Diablo Grande title March 23. His two-day total of 1-over 145 left him two strokes ahead of Sihwan Kim of La Mirada, Calif.

"The feeling of winning is indescribable," said Cox, who shot a final-round 74. "It feels good to get through an AJGA tournament because now the pressure is off."

Kim finished the day with 73 to claim the runner-up spot.

Elliott: Saunders savors
week as 'King's' caddie

When Sam Saunders won the club championship at Bay Hill Club and Lodge it was cold, windy and the golf displayed was not the best the storied layout had ever seen.

Saunders, Arnold Palmer's grandson, will tell you that victory ''was nothing major.'' Maybe not, but it's a good bet the 15-year-old would characterize his week at the Bay Hill Invitational as ''major'' and not just because he spent the week on the inside of the ropes with the PGA Tour's best.

THIS WEEK IN GOLFWEEK
Bifurcation. Most golfers never heard the word until the question of a so-called ''Tour ball'' began to be debated in earnest in 2002. Now bifurcation has joined coefficient of restitution in the modern golfer's dictionary of unlikely but indispensable terms. Check the March 29 issue of Golfweek for a special report on Golf's new buzzword: Bifurcation.

POLL QUESTION
Log on to golfweek.com and participate in the ''It's Your Honor'' poll question. This week: Statistics show PGA Tour players are hitting the ball farther than ever. As a result, do you find the Tour to be:
Less appealing to watch
