TOURNAMENT RECAPS
Signal Mountain Junior: May Wood of Signal Mountain, Tenn., shot a
final-round 72 and won by 16 shots June 21 at Signal Mountain Golf and
Country Club. Wood shot 73-70-72 for a 1-under-par 215. J.D. Bass of
Fairview, N.C., shot 68-66-72 (206) and won by two over Josh Thackerson of
Earl, N.C.
AJGA Ping Myrtle Beach Junior: Brian Duncan of Greenville, S.C.,
shattered the tournament record shooting 16-under-par 200 June 21 at
Myrtlewood Golf Club in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Duncan, an 18-year-old Clemson
University signee, shot 65-66-69 and recorded 19 birdies in the three
days. In the girls division, Mickey Cho, an 18-year-old from Wesley
Chapel, Fla., made a 40-foot putt on the first playoff hole to defeat
Andrea Vander Lende.
Pepsi Little Peoples: Marc Mazza of Elmira, N.Y., won a playoff over
Brent Holmes of Glen Carbon, Ill., June 20 to win at Spring Lake Country
Club in Quincy, Ill. In the girls division, Courtney Jones of Lake
Quivira, Kan., shot 69-67 and won by 11 over Katelyn Crosson of Niceville,
Fla.
AJGA Las Vegas FoundersÆ Legacy Junior: Pat Moore of Phoenix beat Ryan
Keeney of Redmond, Wash., in a sudden-death playoff to win June 21 at The
Legacy Golf Club in Henderson, Nev. Lani Elston of Spokane, Wash., shot a
final-round 69 and beat Lisa Ferrero of Lodi, Calif., by two to win the
girls division.
PGA Junior Series: Ryoong Lim of Pleasanton, Calif., won by a shot June
20 at Haggin Oaks Golf Club in Sacramento, Calif. Courtney Clark of
Monterey, Calif., won the girls division by three over Allyson Harvie of
Grass Valley, Calif.
AJGA Henry-Griffitts Bluegrass Junior: Mark Blakefield of Maysville,
Ky., set a tournament record 6-under-par 204 to win June 20 at Bellefonte
Country Club in Ashland, Ky. Marci Turner of Tompkinsville, Ky., shot 71
in the final round to win by one over Beth Marushak of Northampton, Pa.,
and Whitney Wade of Glasgow, Ky.

NOTES ò Jordan PorterÆs first golf experience ended with emergency
surgery after a friend accidentally hit him in the head with a golf club.
The blow to the head left the 12-year-old from Janesville, Wis., unable to
talk for hours June 23. Porter was rushed to Mercy Hospital then was flown
to the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison, where surgeons used 14
titanium screws and a plate to rebuild the right side of his skull.
PorterÆs prognosis is good and doctors do not anticipate any long-term
effects.
ò In state junior amateur competition: Jean Reynolds won the Georgia
Girls Amateur and Taylor Hall won the Georgia Boys Junior; Jeff Spradlin
won a playoff to capture the Kansas Junior Amateur; Sean Moore beat Rodney
Thomas in 20 holes and Michelle Jarman defeated Jessica Hauser, 5 and 4,
to win their respective divisions of the Carolinas Junior Amateur; Alex
Brown beat Daryl Chappell, 2 and 1, to win the Virginia Junior Match Play;
Jennie Peek won the Colorado Girls Junior Match Play, 3 and 2, over Trisha
Quick and Derek OÆNeill won the Colorado Boys Junior.
ò Mason City Newman was stripped of its second-place Class 1A Boys Iowa
State High School finish after the team admitted to practicing on the
Otter Creek Golf Course in Ankeny prior to the tournament. The Iowa High
School Athletic Association took action after hearing details of the case
-- the first time a school has been stripped of honors in that fashion.
Keosauqua Van Buren, who originally finished third, waas awarded the
second-place trophy. Sumner won the title by a shot.
ò Eleven-year-old Michelle WieÆs run at the U.S. WomenÆs Amateur Public
Links ended June 22 in the third round when she lost, 1 up, to Allison
Johnson. Wie of Honolulu, became the youngest player to qualify for a U.S.
Golf Association womenÆs amateur event when she made the field last year,
losing in the first round.
