TOURNAMENT RECAPS
* AJGA First American Title Avila Junior Classic
Ty Callahan, 17, withstood a strong challenge from George
Gandranata en-route to winning the boys division title at the Avila
Junior Classic.
Callahan, who carded rounds of 67-73-70 for a 210 total, began his day with
three birdies through five holes but double-bogeyed No. 8 moments before a
1-hour, 40-minute rain delay.
''I got off to a good start,'' said Callahan, an Avila Golf & Country Club
member. ''I tried to speed up because I knew the weather was on the way, but
when I double-bogeyed I hurt myself.''
Gandranata finished at 5 under while 2002 champion Nicholas Smith and
Ben Leong tied for third at 212.
Brittany Lincicome went wire-to-wire to take the girls division
crown. Lincicome, who won her second AJGA event this season, finished at 207
thanks to a career-low 65 in Round 2.
''I knew I couldn't top a 65,'' said the three-time Polo Junior Golf
All-American. ''I just tried to score even par all day.''
Lincicome won this event in 2000 when it was called the AJGA Tampa Bay
Classic.
* AJGA Nike Golf Junior All-Star Classic at Colonial
Sihwan Kim shot a 3-under 69 to pull away from the field June 3 and
win his first American Junior Golf Association title at the Nike Golf Junior
All-Star Classic at Colonial. Kim's 7 under total was four strokes better
than Kevin O'Connell and Heejoo Son.
O'Connell (68) and Son (70) finished tied at 213 while Raj Nahal (70)
and Paul Haley (72) were fourth at 214.
Alexandrea Schulte held on to win the girls division title, shooting
a final-round 78 for her first AJGA title.
''It's a great feeling (to win) because AJGA is the best of the best,'' said
Schulte who finished with a 228 total. ''Now I feel I'm able to do it, I'm
able to win tournaments in AJGA.''
Brittany Nelson (77) and Ashley Lance (79) tied for second at
232.
* AJGA Midwest Junior Players Championship
Cole Peevler shot an even-par 71 to clinch the boys division title
July 3 at the AJGA's Midwest Junior Players Championship.
Peevler eagled No. 2 and birdied the third hole at Grand Geneva Resort and
Spa in Lake Geneva, Wis., to get his momentum going on his way to a 3-under
210 total.
''I was feeling pretty good and I knew I needed to keep it going,'' said
Peevler, who won the 2002 John Deere Junior Classic. ''I took a couple days
off and have been playing well ever since.''
James Sacheck, who carded the final round's lowest score (69), and
Colin Wilcox tied for second place at 2 under.
After winning the AJGA Southwestern Junior Classic and AJGA Ping/Marisco
Funds Colorado Junior Roundup earlier this season, Amanda
Blumenherst, 16, added another victory to her collection with rounds of
65-73-71 for a 4-under 209 total.
The victory is her fifth AJGA title. In 2002, she won the AJGA Arizona
Junior Classic and the AJGA R.H. Crossland Foundation/St. Regis Aspen
Junior.
''I felt like I played really well today,'' Blumenherst said. ''I didn't get
into any trouble and my putting was on, which makes it easy. I didn't need
to get up-and-down or make any long putts.''
Kelly Robb finished in second, one shot ahead of Noriko
Nakazaki. Robb is headed to Northwestern University in the fall to play
golf.
* Florida Junior Invitational
Dolores White beat Lindsey Bergeon to win the girls division
July 6 on the second hole of a playoff at Mission Inn Golf and Tennis
Resort.
Kevin Lim secured the boys title in regulation with a final-round 75,
beating Rikiya Kitagawa by a stroke.
Despite the close finish in the boys division, most of the intrigue was for
the girls' playoff. Following matching pars on the first playoff hole,
Bergeon got into trouble on the par-3 second hole, hitting her first shot
short of the green into the rough. Bergeon missed a 25-foot par attempt
while White two-putted for par and the victory. Full

* CJGA Signature Series Junior Shootout
Gavin Aldridge held on to win the Canadian Junior Golf Association's
Signature Series Junior Shootout July 4 by one stroke over Geoffrey
McLeod and Matthew Sim.
Five players finished 54 holes within two shots of Aldridge at Blue Springs
Golf Club in Acton, Ontario.
Aldridge, who began the final round tied for the lead with Justin
Regier, shot a final-round 75 for a 219 total. Regier closed with 77 and
tied for fourth with Matt Hoffman, two strokes back.
McLeod, who carded a final-round best 69, jumped into a tie for second with
Sim, who shot an even par closing round.

Ringler: Youthful example -
Last week at the U.S. Women's Open I carried the bag for one of the games
up-and-coming stars -- Katherine Hull. The native of Queensland,
Australia, who graduated from Pepperdine in May and turned pro following the
NCAA Championship, is a newcomer to professional golf but, at 21, an elder
among the championship's youth movement.
The juniors are stealing the spotlight, not only from the world's best, but
from the college All-Americans as well. Yet amid the crush of teen-agers at
Pumpkin Ridge last week, there were a few juniors who went unnoticed.

PLAYER TO WATCH
White began playing golf when she was 9 after watching her father play.
''My dad was really into golf when I was growing up and he was always going
out to play with his friends and since I always was around him, I started
playing,'' she said.
Although she's enjoyed plenty of success on the course, away from golf she
enjoys music.
''I have always been into music, but now the Broadway type of music is
interesting to me,'' the soon-to-be high school sophomore said. ''Hopefully
one day I'll be able to go see a Broadway show in person.''
White feels that what sets her apart from others is her on-course charisma.
''My golfer friends are enthusiastic, but they don't show it. I am not like
that,'' she said. ''I yell at the ball or do whatever it takes sometimes for
the ball to go where I want it to go.''
